It’s a bit affected, and I think it messes up the framing of the face because it introduces a gap the eye expects to be filled. Creates an inverted triangle below the chin that makes the head appear wobbly or unstable; on open collar or tie reverses the triangle and provides a stable frame for the face. Or maybe I’m overthinking it.
